2014 WOMEN BUILDING CALIFORNIA AND THE NATION

In late April the Women in Construction Program had the pleasure of attending the Women Building California and the Nation, Women in the Trades Conference. This conference hosted in Sacramento, CA was an event with over 900 women from across the nation and the world. This conference had women of all trades and experiences from apprentices to master level trades women. This was a wonderful experience to be in a room with women who had been working in the trades for some over 40yrs. With speakers from Presidents of different unions to journeymen this was an eye opening experience an a inspiration. To see all the support tradeswomen were giving each other was an amazing thing to be a part of. This 3 day conference served as a learning experience not only because of the different trades represented but also because of the breakout sessions teaching women about their rights and policies that will be in place that are trying to get more women in the trades. With more and more women deciding to get into the construction trades it is exciting to know that conferences like this are out there. So all the tradeswomen out there... the Women in Construction program WILL see you next year!

Moore Community House 90th Anniversary Celebration and Women in Construction Ribbon Cutting

WOMEN IN CONSTRUCTION CELEBRATES THE OPENING OF THE NEW TRAINING CENTER
BUILT BY WOMEN FOR WOMEN!!!

Moore Community House recently celebrated its 90th anniversary and the Women in Construction Program Training Center Ribbon Cutting. After months of hard work women in construction finally opened its doors to its new space. The renovation and new addition was done over a period of 6 months with many volunteers and students helping along the way. This new space will be a crucial addition to the program giving the students a indoor and outdoor shop space and also classroom space where students can receive their certifications. From every nail to every paint stroke, over 80 percent of the work was completed by women!!!  This space is a great testament to the program and what it can do and will keep doing for women in the community for years to come!!!
